Research Priorities

Primary Record Acquisition Priorities

The next primary records that would most strengthen the archive’s evidence for Andrew Poston, the town of Poston, and the South Carolina family line.

Highest-value additions

The site now makes the evidence gaps explicit rather than implying that every part of the historical narrative is already proved by material held in the archive.

  1. Andrew Poston railroad deed / right-of-way / conveyance
The highest-value missing document because it could independently corroborate the 1916 newspaper statement about land and railroad development.
  2. Andrew Poston probate or estate file
Could establish heirs, property, residence, and relationships at the end of Andrew’s life.
  3. Andrew Poston–Jane Daniels marriage record
A project source register identifies a Marion County marriage dated November 18, 1857; the archive still needs the primary image or certified record.
  4. 1850–1910 federal census schedules for Andrew Poston
Would document household composition, age, occupation, residence, and changes across six decades.
  5. Florence / Marion County deeds involving Andrew Poston
Would document land ownership and may clarify the geography around the later railroad junction.
  6. Railroad maps, plats, depot, siding and timetable records
Could independently document Poston as a railroad location and clarify the junction’s operational history.
  7. Hugh Poston probate / Bible / deed evidence
Would strengthen the parent-generation link currently presented through the compiled genealogy.
  8. Ellison / Allison / Poston Landing records
Period maps, landing references, deeds, ferry/river records, and newspapers would strengthen the older pre-railroad locality history.

Submission standard

Whenever possible, a new source should include the original image, full archival citation, repository or publication information, a searchable transcription, and a short note explaining exactly which proposition the document supports.
