Current family-history framework

The preferred revised genealogy corrects the older “John and Andrew” tradition by identifying the early South Carolina brothers as John Poston and Anthony (“Antney”) Poston. The later Andrew Poston (1829–1916), associated with the naming of Poston, South Carolina, belongs to a later generation. Researchers should keep those generations distinct.

What proves a chain

A reliable chain should be built link by link from wills, deeds, census schedules, marriage records, family Bibles, probate files, military records, cemetery evidence, and contemporary notices. A published chart can organize the problem; it does not eliminate the need to verify the underlying evidence.
